A "fireball" was spotted this evening by people from different towns along the north and east of Puerto Rico, especially those living near the El Yunque National Forest, Rio Grande.

According to the president of the Astronomical Society of the Caribbean (SAC), Eddie Irizarry, it was a bolide, a meteor fragment large entering the atmosphere due to friction generates heat and it looks like a flash of fire.

People who spotted the fireball immediately call to reported to the police in various municipalities in the east and Rio Grande, Juncos, Naguabo, Fajardo and Yabucoa.

This is a fairly common phenomenon and that people do not report it because they always have a chance to witness it and besides lasts for few seconds.
