Puerto Rican filmmaker and scholar Carmen Oquendo-Villar has just received a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship. Often characterized as "midcareer" awards, Guggenheim Fellowships are intended for men and women who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts. Since 2001, three Fellowships have been awarded to Puerto Rican applicants in the Latin American and Caribbean competition, including Mayra Santos Febres, prominent Puerto Rican poet, novelist, and critic.
